The initial company, St Louis Bread Company was founded by Ken Rosenthal and later purchased in 1993 by Au Bon Pain Co. Au Bon Pain Co. renamed itself Panera Bread and they now own 1,493 stores. Their products include cold sandwiches, several varieties of bread, muffins, hot Panini, salads, and soups. The company is headquartered in Louisville, Missouri.
